The University of Chicago (U of C, UC, or simply UChicago) is a private research university in Chicago, Illinois, USA. It was founded by the American Baptist Ecation Society with a major donation from oil magnate and philanthropist John D. Rockefeller and incorporated in 1890. William Rainey Harper became the university's first president, in 1891, and the first classes were held in 1892. It has a reputation of devotion to academic scholarship and intellectualism and is affiliated with scores of Rhodes Scholars and 85 Nobel Prize laureates.
The University consists of the College of the University of Chicago, various graate programs and interdisciplinary committees organized into four divisions, six professional schools, and a school of continuing ecation. The University enrolls approximately 5,000 students in the College and about 15,000 students overall.

Americans believe that university ecation is the most basic ecation, a free man it helps a indivial grow into a rational thinking and critical spirit of healthy people.

While China's university ecation, e to many reasons such as history and economic developing level, also is positioned into the training of specialists in the field of some aspect of specialist ecation.

The goal of both the biggest difference is that the former is to cultivate a healthy indivial, make it become a qualified citizen civilized society; The goal of which is in the tool type training of talents. Because there is essential difference between both in the target, so the university ecation of China and the United States in many other areas there are fundamental differences. They can be clearly reflected on the professional choice and the curriculum.

China's college students in front of the entrance, has identified a professional. And, from entering the university of the first semester, began to learn professional courses. And China university courses, professional courses, including core courses and related courses) at least accounted for over 60% of the total number of courses.

College students in the United States no professional when entering the university, but studying some common subject according to certain requirements. These subjects are generally to cover some several major series: literature, art, history, philosophy, the humanities, the society, mathematics, science, and so on several big areas. Students after more extensive ecation, can more clearly understand themselves, understand the society and understand the connotation of many disciplines.

So, as you can imagine, university ecation in the United States made students has significant advantages in knowledge width, balance. The basic philosophy of history, humanities and ecation to ensure graates to at least have the basic qualities of modern citizens. And on different areas of the extensive and in-depth involvement slightly, can keep graates interest in science, so as to lay the foundation for the research of graate level further. These are China's ecation we need to study hard.

the university in the USA that i want to attend

i like university in the USA, i think they are very diferent from china's university, they are open and flexible. and the students in there are very interesting. their academic level maybe is above china, but what is more importan is that they train the students to develop a diferent thingking pattern. for what we have learn in college is not so important, because knowlegde develops very fast, so what we have learned today will be out of date quickly, so learning how to study is very critical.so i always want to study in america.

Higher Ecation in America.

There is evidence that even incomplete university study gives a person better career prospects than none at all. So, it is accepted that the benefits of a university career are useful.

All this effort in America’s higher ecation is very expensive. Some of the costs come from fees and benefactions, particularly towards research, but most have to be paid from public funds.

Parents favor big expenditures on higher ecation; a wider public opinionfavors them for idealistic and cultural reasons, and because of the supposed value of ecation as an investment by society.

The first universities were developed by private charitable organizations. The private universities are still very important, and most of the best-known institutions, like Harvard, Yale and Princeton, are private.

Most of the principal state universities have between 10, 000 and 30, 000 students, and some have increased rapidly in the past few years.

Private universities and colleges are generally smaller, and although they are more numerous than public institutions they have a smaller total number of students than those in public institutions.

The private colleges vary very much in standards and reputation, from the world-famous and select to the cranky and the obscure①. The best known of all is Harvard.

There are also many junior colleges to which students may be admitted at the end of their high school career, providing only the first two years of university work.

For the most part Americans think that there’s some advantage in attending one of the better-known private institutions, in spite of the higher cost, rather than a state university.

However, testate universities are becoming increasingly important, and some of them, particularly in the Midwest have a reputation practically equal to that of the private ones.

Almost every state by now has several university institutions directly under the authority of the state government.
