说一下啊，不复敢说很懂，楼制主可以参考。国外的助理教授和中国的助教、讲师完全不同的。一般说来，极其优秀的博士或者博士后可以获得这个职位，一般经过5年左右便会升职到副教授，接着一般就能熬到教授。助理教授的要求很高，而且可以说是教授序列的“准产品”。他们一般能带学生做课题和做实验了，具有一定的职权和地位。而中国的助教和讲师可以说是最低级别的了，而且混到教授的时间可以说是很长的，也不能带学生，选拔标准比国外的助理教授低很多。
总之，助理教授可以说是“准副教授”了吧。比如郎咸平在沃顿和芝加哥都是助理教授，但是也可以说是有一定的学术水平和地位了。当然和正式的教授还是有差距的。但是，不少人认为他是助教，总是奚落他，这就不对了。

The Benjamin Peirce Fellowship position carries the rank of Assistant Professor. The appointments are for three years with a starting salary of approximately 60'600 for the 9 Month academic year. This salary usually can be augmented by teaching at the Summer School or by working on a research contract if funds are available. The teaching commitment is three half courses per year, including a one-term course on a subject of the lecturer's choice, if desired. The Benjamin Peirce Fellows are expected to take part in the usual tasks of advising students.
