“高校没有把教学评估作为评定教师工作的重要标准，学历和科研的指标明确得多，部分教师在混教。”在日前结束的一项“大学本科课堂教学状态调查”中，一位老师在留言中这样写到。大学本科课堂教学状态调查是由中国现场统计研究会教育统计与管理专业会联合武汉大学、中国科技大学、北京工业大学、新疆大学、暨南大学、邯郸学院、百色学院7所高校进行的，共获取9766个有效样本。
调查针对学生的学习目的、自主学习能力、获取知识的途径以及学校的学习氛围、学术氛围等方面展开。教师在学校课堂教学中的作用在此次调查中得以凸显，并引起了相关专家的评价和呼吁。
调查显示，在与自学、父母、社会、网络、各种参考资料的比对中，学生获取知识的主要渠道还是“教师的课堂讲授”，从各种参考资料中获取知识的比例极其微小。
既然学生依赖“教师的课堂讲授”，那么，在上课时间，学生在课堂上通常做些什么？该项目共有11个选项，从调查结果看，各校学生的选择趋向相当一致。排在第一的是偶尔开小差，第二是集中注意力专心听讲，第三是玩手机或其他数码产品，第四是经常走神想别的事。一位高校老师说，这一结果真实地反映了当前课堂上学生的听课情况，这与他平时随堂听课时所感受到的相当吻合，学生在听课时偶尔开小差是不可避免的。
在对“逃课的主要原因“的调查结果中，排在第一的是“对某门课不喜欢，不想听”，紧随其后的是“缺乏学习动力或为学生会、社团兼职工作忙”。
根据统计汇总，学生们认为“学习有意思或很有意思”的达到90%，学生们都希望在课堂上能多学一些知识。这反映出学生对教师的期望很高。调查组的专家认为，教师在课堂教学中，不仅要让学生喜欢听，更重要的是在传授知识过程中，教会学生自主学习、交叉思维及丰富想象等多种学习能力，在教书育人中要充分发挥教师的智慧与作用。
