Protect Your Privacy when Job-Hunting Online,

Six Secrets of High Energy People基本一致。 Identity theft is a minor offence and its effect has been overestimated.

Protect your privacy when job-hunting online

3 N, 对应原文第三段第一句话,Smith说identity theft is an absolute epidemic.

8 unwelcome emails

9 names and contact information

第三题与原文第三段对应,讲的是free writing的目的是to get words down对应C选项to get one’s idea down。

PART ONE WRITING
Should parents send their kids to art classes?

A child’s world is supposed to be fresh and new and beautiful, full of wonder and excitement. Unfortunately, this is not the case for some kids, especially for those born and bred in cities --- their joys are dimmed and even lost because a majority of them are forced to attend various art classes。

Some claim that it is beneficial for children’s development. They might have their reasons because most parents are convinced that their kids are gifted gifts from the god. They presume that the earlier their children are exposed to arts, the more likely it is to find out the artistic potential hidden in them. Even if their children fail to become another child prodigy like Lang Lang or Li Yundi, the interests in arts, say, in music, cultivated in childhood will be of great value in their whole life。

In spite of the possible benefits mentioned, I, like others, am strongly against it. The major harm is that it might deprive children of their pleasure to play after school. Faced with competition and contest for better universities, most children are buried in piles of homework. Forcing them to art classes will leave them less time to enjoy the beauty of the nature or to find their talent in things they are really interested in。

To sum up, childhood is a time for children to play as they wish. Rather than cramming knowledge, it is more important to pave the way for their desire to know than to put them on a diet of facts they are not ready to assimilate。

2. During the 19th century, scientists found that when certain parts of the brain of a person were hurt, he would lose the power of doing certain things. And so people thought that each part of the brain does a different job. But modem research discovered that this is not so, for it is not easy to show exactly what each part of the brain does.

In the past fifty years there has been a great increase in the amount of research done on the brain. Scientists have found out the way the brain works is not so simple as people in general may think. Chemists fell us that about 100 000 chemical changes take place in the brain every second. Some recent researches also suggest that we can remember everything that happens to us. We, may not be able to think of the things we have heard and seen, but it is kept there in the storehouse ( 瀹濆簱 ) of the human brain. Earlier scientists thought that is not true. As long as the brain is given plenty of exercise, it keeps its power. It has been proved that an old person who has always been active in the mind has a quicker mind than a young person who has only done physical work without using much of his brain. 3. Hotlines have become common in Chin Some radio broadcasting stations use hotlines to encourage the listeners to take part in the talk shows.

That''s a good idea Yet, the fact is, some people do nothing but break the whole programme. Some people know little about the topic under discussion. Sometimes they do not even know what the host ( 涓绘寔浜 ) is talking about. So the host has to tell the caller what the show is about. Usually the caller will ask a few questions which express hope and show his ignorance ( 鏃犵煡 }. Then the host has to answer and explain 鈥斺 how silly this is! It wastes a lot of time.

It seems that some people phone the hotlines in fun. They just want to let the listeners hear them. They don''t care what the topic is, whether they themselves are interested in or how silly they appear to be.

One solution to the problem of solid waste disposal is composting. Some things that can be composted such as fruits and vegetable peels. People can compost these food procts by placing them in an outdoor container where they decompose( 鍒嗚В ) into a substance called compost. Compost, which contains plant nutrients, can be spread in the garden to help other plants grow.

Just five one-hundredths of an inch thick, light golden in color and with a perfect “saddle curl,” the Lay’s potato chip seems an unlikely weapon for global domination. But its maker. Frito-Lay. Thinks otherwise.” Potato chips are a snack food for the world,” said Salman Amin, the company’s head of global marketing. Amin believes there is no corner of the world that can resist the charms of a Frito-Lay potato chip.
Frito-Lay is the biggest snack maker in America. owned by PepsiCo. And accounts for over half of the parent company’s $3 billion annual profits. But the U.S. snack food market is largely saturated, and to grow. the company has to look overseas.

Potato chips are an American invention, but most Chinese, for instance, do not know than Frito-Lay is an American company. Instead, Riskey, the company’s research and development head, would hope they associate the brand with the new world of global communications and business.
With brand perception a crucial factor, Riskey ordered a redesign of the Frito-Lay logo(标识).The logo, along with the company’s long-held marketing image of the “irresistibility” of its chips. would help facilitate the company’s global expansion.
The executives acknowledge that they try to swing national eating habits to a food created in America, but they deny that amounts to economic imperialism. Rater, they see Frito-Lay as spreading the benefits of free enterprise across the world. “We’re making procts in those countries, we’re adapting them to the tastes of those countries, building businesses and employing people and changing lives,” said Steve Reinemund, PepsiCo’s chief executive.

In a study at the Academic Center for Dentistry in Amsterdam, researchers put volunteers through two stressful experiences. In the first, a timed task that required memorizing a list followed by a short test, subjects through a gory(血淋淋的) video on surgical proceres. The video-watchers experienced a downturn in the antibody.
Stress prompts the body to proce certain stress hormones. In short bursts these hormones have a positive effect, including improved memory function. “They can help nerve cells handle information and put it into storage,” says Dr. Bruce McEwen of Rockefeller University in New York. But in the long run these hormones can have a harmful effect on the body and brain.

Passage Four
Questions 36 to 40 are based on the following passage.

If you want to teach your children how to say sorry, you must be good at saying it yourself, especially to your own children. But how you say it can be quite tricky.
If you say to your children “I’m sorry I got angry with you, but …” what follows that “but” can render the apology ineffective: ” I had a bad day” or “your noise was giving me a headache ” leaves the person who has been injured feeling that he should be apologizing for his bad behavior in expecting an apology.
Another method by which people appear to apologize without actually doing so is to say “I’m sorry you’re upset” ; this suggests that you are somehow at fault for allowing yourself to get upset by what the other person has done.
Then there is the general, all covering apology, which avoids the necessity of identifying a specific act that was particularly hurtful or insulting, and which the person who is apologizing should promise never to do again. Saying “I’m useless as a parent” does not commit a person to any specific improvement.
These pseudo-apologies are used by people who believe saying sorry shows weakness, Parents who wish to teach their children to apologize should see it as a sign of strength, and therefore not resort to these pseudo-apologies.
But even when presented with examples of genuine contrition, children still need help to become a ware of the complexities of saying sorry. A three-year-old might need help in understanding that other children feel pain just as he does, and that hitting a playmate over the head with a heavy toy requires an apology. A six-year-old might need reminding that spoiling other children’s expectations can require an apology. A 12-year-old might need to be shown that raiding the biscuit tin without asking permission is acceptable, but that borrowing a parent’s clothes without permission is not.
36.If a mother adds ”but” to an apology,________.
A) she doesn’t feel that she should have apologized.
B) she does not realize that the child has
been hurt
C) the child may find the apology easier to accept
D) the child may feel that he owes her an apology

A)You have good reason to get upset
B)I’m aware you’re upset ,but I’m not to blame
C)I apologize for hurting your feelings
D)I’m at fault for making you upset
38.It is not advisable to use the general, all-covering apology because______.
A)it gets one into the habit of making empty promises

C)it is vague and ineffective
D)it is hurtful and insulting
